TrueReed Honing Glass - Presale (50 Units)

Sale Price:$99.00 Original Price:$139.00

Most reed maintenance tools work by removing material. The TrueReed Honing Glass works by preserving it.

Traditional adjustment tools — reed knives, sandpaper, Dutch rush, abrasive finishing tools — all share the same fundamental approach: remove material from the reed to change how it plays. And in the short term, that approach works.

What it also does, every single time, is expose and weaken the internal fiber structure of the cane. Every pass of a knife or sandpaper removes structural material you cannot get back, opens the xylem and phloem to moisture and contaminants, and shortens the useful life of that reed — whether you notice it immediately or not.

The TrueReed Honing Glass was built around a different premise entirely.

What the Glass Does

The TrueReed Honing Glass uses three precision flat planing surfaces in progressive grits to treat the reed surface without cutting into its structure. Rather than removing intact fiber material, the glass removes only what's already separated from the reed — raised fibers, surface debris, and accumulated residue that builds up with normal playing use.

The result is a reed that plays more consistently, responds more predictably, and retains its structural integrity longer than a reed maintained with traditional abrasive tools.

Three beveled adjustment edges allow for targeted precision work across different reed geometries, giving you the control of a reed knife without the structural cost of one.

This is not a reed reviver. It will not resurrect a reed that is already finished. What it will do is extend the productive life of reeds that still have life in them — and keep your best reeds playing at their best for longer than you're used to.

Built For

The TrueReed Honing Glass is designed for advanced students and working professionals — players who go through enough reeds to feel the cost, and who care enough about their consistency to want a maintenance approach grounded in how reeds actually work at a structural level.

If you've read our Reed Longevity Guide, you already understand why cutting reeds shortens their life. The glass is the practical application of everything in that guide.

If you haven't read it yet, it's available free at [LINK] — it'll give you the full picture of what's actually happening to your reeds over time, and why the glass is built the way it is.
